Siouxsie and the Banshees were an English rock band formed in London in 1976 by vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and bass guitarist Steven Severin. Initially associated with the English punk rock scene, the band rapidly evolved to create “a form of post-punk discord full of daring rhythmic and sonic experimentation”. The Times cited Siouxsie and the Banshees as “one of the most audacious and uncompromising musical adventurers of the post-punk era.”
The Scream is the debut studio album by English rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, released in November 1978 on Polydor Records. Even before this release, the band already had a strong reputation as a live act as well as having a Top 10 UK single under their belt with “Hong Kong Garden” (which did not appear on the original album).
The Scream was an almost instant critical and commercial success, peaking at number 12 in the UK Albums Chart. The album is today acknowledged as a classic; Uncut magazine rated it at number 43 in their list of “The 100 Greatest Debut Albums”.
